Chicago Community Areas (CCAs) are 77 areas (originally 75) that were defined by the University of Chicago’s Social Science Research Committee in the 1920s.
Census measures included changes in race/ethnicity, adult high school dropouts, poverty or higher-income households, crowded housing, unemployment, English proficiency, foreign-born residents.
Within these areas are “sub-neighborhoods” that make up the the neighborhood’s diversity. Families can use their vouchers to rent a house or apartment in the private market in neighborhoods across Chicago. .
